In an effort to get some of the junk out of Lily's room (she saves EVERYTHING), I threw away a bunch of papers in her top drawer. Today we were discussing Father's Day... and she said "I have a card for daddy that I've been saving in my top drawer." You see where I'm going with this? Yes, I had thrown it away. Fortunately, it was still in the trash can, relatively unharmed (thankfully I had put it in my office trash instead of the kitchen trash).
Things Kids Say:
When Paige (age 3) decides to pitch a fit... it's a good one, and she goes all out. Her face is usually covered with tears and slobber... so she yells for a tissue or cloth or my clothes to wipe her face off. Why? Because "MOMMY, my face looks re-dink-u-lous!" What??? Weird child.
Post-Marathon Depression:
All this build up... months of training... focusing on the prize... goals... controlled eating/fueling... and then, it happens. You finish the marathon. Plummet. Goal accomplished, motivation gone. And timed perfectly with the start of summer which is harder for me to run in anyhow - not just due to the weather, but due to the fact that I now have 3 kids to deal with... and the older ones won't go to the gym, like I used to do on weekdays with Paige. I'll get my mojo back. I have new goals on the horizon, but my body is not quite ready to participate full force yet either.
Vacation Bible School:
The kids have VBS this week from 6-9pm. I work in the nursery which puts me there from 5:30-9:30pm. Bonus - I don't have to cook dinner this week. The flip side is that I'm not exactly eating healthy, and I don't have a lot of self-control when you put pizza in front of me. I eat well at home by surrounding myself with good foods and few temptations. This is also making for late nights (my kids are normally in bed by 8pm) which makes getting up and finding that lost motivation on the home treadmill in the morning hasn't happened.
The Summer Playlist:
I know this has been asked a million times on blogs, but I never pay attention because I don't listen to music while I run. Well the hubs bought me a small MP3 player (nothing fancy... no iPod... just a Poloaroid 2GB player), and I want to put some songs on it to push me through my summer workouts on the home treadmill... which unfortunately, I find 10x worse than the gym treadmill where at least I can people watch and make up fake competitions with the other runners around me. So, what should I have on my player? And where do you download your music? Yes, seriously... I have never downloaded a song off the internet... never logged into iTunes or anything else. It's just never been an interest/need... I listen to the radio in the car, and enjoy silence or adult conversation on my runs.Be Careful:
A few weeks ago, an old friend posted this photo on his facebook... with no other details, except that I had been worried for awhile due to various posts of well wishes on his wall. I don't talk to this person a ton, but he was the first person to ever get me to run a race, over 11 years ago (which was followed with a lot more races that he drug me to, before my long child-bearing break). I didn't care about miles or times back then, so it's been funny how I've come back to what I did so many years ago, but this time I care more... a lot more. Anyhow... I do still check in with this person on occassion, and we update on each other's running progress since he was a major influence in my running/racing... he also cycles, obviously. I *finally* got a response from him about what happened. As I suspected, he was hit by a car on a training ride. The accident happened on April 11th, I believe... and in mid-July, he will get to start walking again... that's 12 weeks off his feet (the first 10 days in ICU). He's ready to get active again. Please spare some prayers for his recovery. (I have not used his name here for his privacy.)

I think Paige's comment is great. Connor has gotten to where pitching a fit involves giving himself a time out and then getting mad at us for putting him there. Brilliant strategy actually as we spend more time telling him he's not in trouble.
For the MP3's just go to Amazon.
Oh wow, that is so scary/horrible. I hope he makes a full recovery! See? Biking scares me!!!
I could have written the exact same thing about post-marathon depression. Still working on it over here... all I want to do is sit on the deck with a burger and a beer!
great post, real life is messy....but great. hope your friend is up and back to normal soon, so scary....that picture is unbelievable!
Definite prayers for your friend. Scary! Summer is always crazy. Enjoy lazy days (as lazy as they can be with 3 kids) and some rest. It'll be time to train again soon enough!
Very good post. I'm so sorry about your friend and will keep him in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
The post marathon depression really is no joke! UGH - thanks for replying to my similarly themed feelings. I'm considering Wht. Rock but may run the one here in Jersey in October (if anything) I promised my friend I would at least do that half with her but that mary is supposed to be fast and flat… hmmm - will have to feel out darling hubby and see if it'll piss him off for me to leave again ;)
I download from iTunes but there are other places out there too. I like a lot of old school 80's stuff mixed in. I'll send you a few of my favs.
Paige is adorable and I'm so happy to hear you found her daddy's day card! WHEW!
1 - not a TOTAL fail. I mean you DID find the card after all! How sweet that she thought ahead and had one made for her daddy!
2 - she is so cute, she'd allowed to be weird!
3 - I can't even imagine what it feels like to be in the post-marathon depression phase. I mean I get bummed out once a 5K is over and I have to wait for the next. I can't handle it if I don't have a race already booked and paid for sitting on my calendar. Good luck!
4 - My VBS was during the day as a child. Outside - actually by where I go on my long runs now. Too bad yours couldn't do that - and give you the day time to get your run on!
5 - Naturally you want Help Me Ronda on your playlist, right? ;)
6 - Yikes! I'll be sending positive vibes your friend's way. Biker Boy actually got hit head on in 2003 I think? Went right through the truck's windshield before crashing back to the ground. I'm sure he can really empathize with him. So scary!
Your daughter is too cute! So sorry to hear about your friend! I will add him to my prayers!
I will be praying for your friend. What a tragic accident!
Your daughter is so cute! Kids say the funniest things!!!
I can totally relate to the marathon depression! I had such a hard time getting back and then I got pregnant. I ended up taking over a year off....I did spinning and what not. The passion came back 10 fold! Hang in there and give yourself grace!
Please know your cycling friend is in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine how horrible this must be for not only him, but his friends and family.
You said "I'll get my mojo back." WILL I!?!?!?! I'm still feeling down from Pittsburgh and when I try to run, I am just 'not that into it.' Does that feeling go away and will I love running again? I hope so! I feel so discouraged right now! I was glad to read your post and know that I am NOT alone in my feelings....thanks for being honest about yours!
Happy Summer too! :)
SO glad you were able to rescue the card
Look forward to following your blog!!
Gotta run.
Things kids say:
Our oldest, then 9, told my mom that the Salmon she was cooking for us one Friday smelled like Vagina.
I was on the floor laughing, and my wife almost whipped me to death!
OMG! Andrew, that is freaking hysterical! ---I'd have probably smacked ya, too! ;)
I use Itunes because Im a huge Ipod fan! My first Ipod was the Shuffle (only around $50) and now I have a Nano. Im not sure if you can use Itunes for just a regular MP3 player though.
